Owner Gilbert DeHut reported
that during the night a chuck
block was stolen from his logging

dent ol Silverton. died Wednesday

lived in Salem for the past two
years
Weidner vas born in Detroit,
Mich . Dec II. URL and came to
Oregon in 1901 to purchase and
operate a hop ranch. He movea
to Silverton from Portland in 1938
and continued to live in Silverton
prior to the move to Salem
Survivors include the widow,
Mrs. Marie A. Weidner, Salem;
daughter, Mrs. Alvin Zielesch, Sa
lem; son, Oscar Weidner, Yam
hill. Ore.; sister, Mrs. Kurt Kling,

Of Salem Dies
Glenn Niles, M, resident of
Salem for more than 50 years and
at 'one time prominent in area
lodge activities, died Wednesday
at a Salem hospital after a long
illness The home was at 2630 N.
Church St.
Niles was an accountant by pro
fession, having been employed in
the old Capital National Bank
here and also with the state. He
was a shipyard accountant in Port
land during World War II.
A member of Chemeketa Lodge
No 1, IOOF. he served as past
noble grand of the lodge and for
many years was its secretary un
til illness forced "his retirement
He also was a member of Pacific
Lodge N Sfl AF AM; Al Kader
Shrine; Knights Commandry:
F.astern Star and Hodson Council.
He belonged to the First Presby
terian Church
Niles at one time was active In
Boy Scout work and also was
prominent in area stamp-collecting
circles
He was born Feb. 1, 1BA9, in
York. Neh., and in 1904 came to
Salem with his parents. Gustavus
F. Niles and Ida Louise Doty
Niles.
Survivors include a sister, Belle
Niles Brown, Salem; two nieces,
Elizabeth Anne Brown. Salem, and
Mrs. Mary Louise Telford, San
Francisco; one grandniece and
two grandnephews

Church Planned
The Rev Howard Peterson of
Vancouver. Wuh.. announced Tues
day he plans to develop a new
church and congregation under
auspices of the Peace Lutheran
Church.
The new church will be located
on a 2Vacre lot at the corner of
Glen Creek Road and Parkway
Drive, West S3lem. First services
will be in September at West Sa
lem American Legion Hall, the
Rev Peterson said.
Construction of the new church,
which will be of modern architec
ture, is also scheduled to begin in
September, he added. The church
will be an offspring of the St.
John's Lutheran Church of Salem.
The Rev Peterson is married and
a recent graduate of Concordia
Seminary, St. Louis. Mo.
Oregon Road
Traffic Gains
Oregon highway traffic during
June of this year wu up 1.3 per
cent over June 19S, the Highway
Department reported Wednesday.
The report was based on 2S rural
automatic traffic counters.
Largest increase was on U.S.
Highway 20, five miles east of
Bend, with a 15.7 per cent fain
over the same period a year ago.
U.S. Highway 99 showed an 1$
per cent increase near Halsey and
at Otter Rock on U.S. 101 traffic
increased 7.9 per cent.
Near Rainier on U.S. 30. a 11.3
per cent increase wu recorded
and at Valley Junction traffic was
up 13 per cent.
At Midland six miles south of
Klamath Falls on U.S. 97-therc
was a gain ol 7.7 per cent.
