Death Takes Salem
Grandmother of 104
An 87-year-old Salem woman who
died Thursday U survived by
total of 104 children and grand
children.
Mn. Elma R. Wiley la survived
by (our daughters, three sons, 32
grandchildren, M great-grandchildren
and one great-great-grand
daughter. Two sisters also sur
vived.
Mrs. Wiley died at the home of
a daughter. Mrs. Iva Kilkatrick,
2645 Bluff St. She suffered a stroke
two weeks ago.
She was born May 27. 1869. In
Lebanon. She lived in Salem nine
year, the last two with her daugh
ter.
When she Was 12, she and her
family moved to Moro, Ore., where
she lived until she married Frank
O. Wiley. Her maiden name was
Elma Rosetta Badger.
The couple moved to Vancouver.
Wash., where they lived about 25
years on a farm. Her husband died
in 1945.
Mrs. Wiley was a member of
First Christian Church In Salem.
In addition to the grandchildren
survivors include daughters, Mrs.
Elma Hickman, Salem; Mrs. Iva
Kilpatrlck. Salem; Mrs. Dorothy
Crosslin, Ashland; Mrs. Shirley
Gilber.; Ashland; sons. Russet
Wiley, Vancouver, Wash.; Worth
Wiley, Dayton; James Wiley, Ev
erett, Wash.; and sisters Mrs.
Dollie Caseidy, Milwaukie, and
Mrs. Ethel Sanderson, Dayton.
Services will be Saturday at 1

Frank George Block, 20, son
of Mr. and Mrs. George Block,
died Thursday la his home at 340
E. Washington St Block under
went surgery a year ago for a
brain tumor.
Block, born Aug. 16, 1938, In
Forest City, Iowa, was a 1933
graduate of Oregon Technical In
stitute, Klamath Falls. He was
a member of Central Lutheran
Church.
The family moved to Gervals
about 1950 from Forest City, and
came to Salem about a year ago.
The elder Blocks operate an
apartment house at 340 E. Wash
ington St.
Surviving are his parents, and
a sister, Mrs. Frank Grittinger
Jr., Gervals. ; ; :
Services will ba Saturday at
1:30 p.m. In the Howell-Edwards
Chapel. The Rev. Harold Grindal
will officiate. Concluding services
will be in Forest City, Iowa. .

here with Ira Stewart, Eugene, the

after several leaders of Goodwill

He came to Salem in 1931 and
attended North Salem High school.
He married the former Barbara
Becker in 1944.
A World War II veteran, Jaeger
was a carpenter's mate in the Sea
bee branch of the Navy. He parti
cipated in the invasion of France
and served in the Pacific area. He
was also a deep sea diver during
the year. ,
His position with the First Na
tional Bank was as assistant cash
ier in the installment-credit loan
department
He was a rifle instructor In the
Salem Optimist Club and a mem
ber of Salem Lodge 4 of the Ma
sons. Surviving are his widow, Mr.
Barbara Jaeger; daughters, Cheryl
and Denise; son, Jon Jaeger, and
mother, Mrs. Edith Jaeger, all of
Salem, and brothers, Fred C. Jae
ger, Dallas, and Clarence R. Jae
ger, Corvallis.
Services will be Saturday at 2:30
p.m. In the Virgil T. Golden chap
el. Ritualistic services will be held
by Salem Lodge 4 AFAAM. The
Rev. Wayne A. Greene will offi
elate.
