Test Militant
Liberty' Plan
WASHINGTON, Dec. 30 uW-The
Pentagon is running a field test
oa material for the "militant lib
erty" program aimed at educating
servicemen in the , advantages of
the American way.
The program, under considera
tion for a year, evolved, from
studies of cases of defection
among Americas troop captured
by the Communists in Korea.
Proponents of the education plan
contend that some of these esse
showed that tht soldiers Involved
lacked knowledge of the advan
tage of American liberty as com
pared with communism's absolute
control.
John C. Broger, deputy director
of the Armed Force Information
and Education Office, said 100 kit
of motion picture footage, record
ing and pamphlets aimed to cor
rect that lack are being sent ex
perimentally to certain unit of the
Army. Navy, Air Force, Marine
and Coast Guard. They are for
use by Junior grade and noncora
misaiooed officers in lectures.
He said that if the kit prove of
value to servicemen at large, the
material will be distributed gener
ally throughout the armed forces,
forces.
The movies, voice recordings
and printed matter in the experi
mental kits contrast American and
Soviet systemg ia such fields as
civic life, the processes of law
and order, and religion.
