Bound . . . for Europe and South
Africa, left to right, are Dr.
Mary B. Purvine, Mrs. Paul Jaquet
of Victor Point and Miss Dorathea
Steusloff, who leave by plane for
Copenhagen via the polar flight on
October 15. Mrs. Jaquet will tour
Europe with her son, Bill Jessup,
returning home in late November.
Dr. Purvine and Miss Steusloff will
travel briefly in Europe, going on
to Africf and the game country, the
Belgian Congo 'and as far south as
Capetown. They will return to the
V ' itates by ship the end of December.

a South American . . . trip I on the schedule for Mr. and Mrv Duane Gibson, who leave
M Thursday. Their main destination is Curitiba, where the will make an extended visit with ,
their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Hansell Jr. The Gibsons will visit In Rio de
Janeiro, Buenos Aires and Lima, Peru, before returning to the itates In February. They will go
by ship to South America, but will make the return trip by plane.

Busy . . . with plans for the opening con
cert of the Portland Symphony Orches
tra in Salem on October 16 are the above
board and committee members of the Salem
Symphony Society, the sponsoring group.

Schwarz, chairman of ticket sales, Donald
Gleckler, also a new board member, and
Mrs. Frank Burlingham, who is serving on
the publicity committee.

on October 16 are Theodore deLooze and
Cail Ritchie, at the right, who are begin
ning their second term on the board of the
Salem Symphony Society. Three concerts
will be given this year "by the Portland
Symphony at the Willamette University Fine
Arts Auditorium;

of ''Private Lives" by the Pentacle
Thertre players will be sponsored by the
Salem Memorial Hospital Auxiliary on Fri
day, October 12 at the Fine Arts Auditorium
at Willamette University. Pictured at the

James G. Watts, co-chairmen of the benefit
