7 Statesman, Salem, Ore, Fit, Aug. 31, 56 (Sec. 19 North Atlantic Pact Council to Consider Suez Canal Situation in Paris Meeting on Wednesday LONDON (JP Britain announced Thursday night the North Atlantic , council will meet in Paris Wednes day "to consider the Suex canal question." That meeting is to open 48 hours after an ice-breaking par ley between the Egyptians and the five-nation Meniics committee In Cairo. Trench troops arrived in Cyprus In the Eastern Mediterranean, where Britain already had streng thened her own forces at her main Middle Eastern base only 230 miles north of Egypt. But a British foreign office spokesman denied this was meant to force Egypt to do anything. Eighteen countries, including Bri tain and France, are supporting a proposal that . Egypt turn the 103--mile canal ever to international control. In a diplomatic cold war, Britain ordered two attaches of the Egyp tian embassy here to leave the country within 72 hours. The order retaliated for Egyptian President Nasser's expulsion of two British diplomats among seven Britons in Cairo whom Egypt accused of spy ing. , 1 The Egyptian attaches are Abdel salam Kafifl and Hamdi Moham med Nasser. The Britons expelled were first -secretaries J. B. Flux and J. G. Gove. Meeting Held The five-nation committee of Australian Prime Minister Robert G. Menzies held another meeting here in planning the assignment given at the 12-nation Sues canal conference ended in London a week ago. It will meet again Fri day, fly to Cairo Sunday and meet Egyptian President Nasser there Monday. The foreign office announcement of the meeting of the NATO coun cil, top body of the lS-nation North Atlantic Treaty Organization, said Foreign Secretary Selwyn I.loyd would attend. It was presumed Bri- ' tain and France will tell their al lies what they plan to do if the talks with Nasser break down. NATO's Paris headquarters said Lloyd was the only foreiRn mini ster presently expected and perma nent headquarters representatives would attrnd for other countries. Staling) on Cyprus The reports of troop movements came within hours of the announce ment in Paris and I-ondon that Britain had agreed France might station troops temporarily on Cy prus. The announcement said France wanted to be able because of events in Egypt and the Suez Canal Zone to assure "protection of French Nationals and of their in terests in the eastern Mediterran ean." Subsequently Sir George Young. British foreign office spokesman, told a news conference the move should be viewed not as coercive but as .precautionary.' But Menon says he is not pressing Nasser to accept any specific plan only exploring possibilities for a peaceful solution of the dispute.
