MAPSEN Garde EdIUr, The Slalesmaa If you didn't get the garden mart you were looking for out at the Oregon Stale Fair for the an nual Slate Flower Show, Sept. 1 to 8. Hazel Bartlett, flower show superintendent, said Thursday, that there were now a few marts available again. Increased inquiry this past week seemed to justify building more garden marts, Mrs. Bartlett said, so seven new ones have been add ed, making a total of 17. This Garden Market Street proved a very popular part of the flower show a year ago. All garden club space is now taken, with 39 clubs entered for one of the biggest garden club showings ever held in connection with any Oragon event. The Sa lem Begonia Society which can celled its August show; reports that the begonias, as well as the fuchsias, have staged an excellent comeback after the hot weather, i ano mere are now pioniy avaiuu'ir for the larue begonia g-rdon planned as this society's contri bution to the fair flower show. National Authority Carl Starker, nationally known flower arranRcr, will be on hand each afternoon during the fair at 1:30 in the flower section, demon strating how he makes arrange-; naenis sucn as inose inciuuru in his two published books on ar rangements. ' Florists of surrounding areas have taken all available space allotted for them in the "show sec tion and are making elaborate plans, judging from a few pre views of blue prints. This will be a very important and colorful part of the show as professional rivolry runs strong in this division. Interest Shown Dahlia growers are also show ing more interest than in recent state flower shows and some IS have now indicated their intention to take part in one way or an other in the dahlia division. Gladiolus growers, back from number of Pacific Coast shows,, including the important Interna-! tional Show in Portland last week-' end, are planning big entries at the State event. Many letters and notes, as well as telephone calls to me during the past two weeks, indicate that the- show will be exceptionally popular this year, with people planning to come to Salem for this event not only from through out the state but from across the lines as well.
