Harvest Labor
Twenty members of the re
search committee on migrant
labor problems of the Oregon
Council of Churches met this week
in Salem to near progress re -
ports.
Dr. Daniel Wessler, chairman,
reported on the types of migrant
labor legislation passea in states

is similar to that of Oregon. Miss
Betty Whitaker. state director of
migrant work for the council, told
of Idaho' recent appointment of
a governor's committee on mi
grant labor.
Dr. Mark Talney. executive
secretary of the Oregon Council,
said Oregon stands among the
second group of stales requiring
the largest number of migrant

ers, Dr. Wessler and Dr. John
Rademaker were named to recom
mend to the next legislature the
formation of a legislative interim
committee on migrant labor.
Dr. Rademaker reported that a
survey taken in Stayton, Indepen
dence and Miltoo-r reewaler on
the businessman's attitude toward
migrant laborers revealed that
businessmen realized the impor
tance of migrant labor in the
economy of the community and
the need for better, -relations with
it.

motor vehicle laws are liable for

body bruises when struck by a
truck at Center and Church streets
about 2 p.m. Friday, Salem police
said
