Q. If I receive a telephone call
while .entertaining guest, should
I explain at once to the person
calling that I have guest and
cannot talk?

can explain and offer to call bark
later. If, however, the call is im

Don't Cook flow. . .
but , . . Heaven help the poor food editor
when men executives take their cooking
prowess seriously enough to take over the
testing kitchens of their firms. We were
absolutely frightened this week when we re
ceived a story from a large food manufacturer
which at first looked like the hundred or more
we receive weekly. But upon reading it there
was a smacking of something superior in the
wording. Then we noted that we could get
further details by contacting - Mr. So-and-so.
Is this a trend? This could be worse than
flying saucers.
Speaking of men . . . (who are all right in
their place). Why is it that you so often see
signs, "Men at Work" but never a bit of pub
licity when the women are working? Is it
tliat the fellows have better press agents than
the women?
Take net , . . The other day, en route back
from lunch at home, we noted the sign that
had been -placed in the road "Men at Work"
out what would we come upon but two very
very small men of pre-school age, sitting
smack dab in the middle of the road, blandly
eating their lunch. There was a shady spot,
I he day was hot and they were hungry, to
why not eat? Well, why not?
Peer rich girls . . . All that ripples is evi
dently not gold, if you'll pardon our scrambled
metaphor. It seems that the lucky owners
of swimming pools this month, have found
that there's no room for the family. Friends,
near friends and mere speaking acquaintances
sometimes come early and stay late, forgetting
that a swimming pool is no more public than
the bathtub. So unless you can swear you
were invited, better go to Leslie or Olinger,
.and let the swimming pool-owning tamily at
least have time for dinner in private.
Toe good? . , . Looking down from the
bridge one hot day, at six gravel trucks and
a big digger, we wondered if the outfit that
is so thoughtfully making til 'ole swimming
holes for the townspeople down there may
not be doirKjrso to ihe detriment of peace
and quiet on: the riverfront. Too many trucks
might just be a hazard to little tots wishing to
enjoy the cool pools and warm s.-nd.
At list . , . We thought we'd lost that
glamour so characteristic of us miaaie-e
spinsters. But no, driving in our convertible
after only two or three months of uncovered
freedom, we got our first whistle. Of course
the whistlers were only about eight years old,
but anyway, they could whistle.
Just sitting , . . Farewell, kind readers, for
a long two weeks, when we plan to just sit,
watch the birds, read and only occasionally
lift a languid finger. . . . Maxine Buren
Paul Talbot Rowell, will become
the bride of Leonard LeRoy Grov
er, of Burns.
.The Rev. Stanley Lyman will
perform the afternoon nuptials.
Lighting the candles will be Neil
Modie of Lewiston, Idaho and
Jerry Gatchcll of Burns.
Miss Judith Wood will be the
honor maid and Miss Sophia
Polales and Mis Doris Liljeberg
