account of her husband's accident
after her conversation with Bailey
at the Kverett General Hospital:
Bailey was walking along an
embankment in the Deer Creek
area of the forest when he slid
20 feet down a slope and then
bounced over a 10-foot ledee. Dur
ing the fall, a pistol Bailey was
carrying' in a side holster dis
charged, with the bullet entering
his stomach.
The miner was taken out of the
wilderness area Tuesday morning
by a mountain-rescue team after
a Navy helicopter was demolished
in a rescue attempt Monday. The
three men aboard the helicopter
escaped injury. The accident hap
pened near the 5. 200-foot level of
the Cascade Mountains.

been slowly bleeding to death in a
