A Variety of
Silhouettes
For Fall
By DOROTHY ROE
AseoHated Preaa Weatea'a Editor
NEW YORK uB-You can wear
a suH and still look as feminine
as Marilyn Monroe, says Master
Tailor Anthony Blotta, previewing
his fall collection for the visiting
fashion press.
He adds a perky tailored bow
back and center on a blouse-back
Jacket, matches, it with a twin at
the neckline, presenta the whole
in a chiffonweight tweed with the
slimmest of skirts and there you
have it the new ladylike look of
1954-57.
Blotta, who is of the generation
of Italian .tailors who learned to
cut and aew before they were old
enough to toss a discus, presents
a great variety of silhouettes In
his new group of fall costumers,
suits and coats, ranging from the
capelet topper outfit to the "gen
try jacket" -worn loosely over a
slim dress. He likes the blouse
backed line in suits, and add
chiffon blouses to keep things pro
perly feminine.
For late day and evening
dresses, be likes satiny black
broadcloth combined with draped
chiffon, or jet embroidered lace
for a bodice. He accents the
empire line with bust-length neck
laces of jewels or gold chains and
high-placed fobs.
Salts with Fall Skirts
Ben Reig departs from the norm
this season, to present suits with
full skirts and normal waistlines,
for customers who do not hanker
for the 1911 look. There are a lot
of die-hards, apparently thinks this
designers, and they have to have
something to wear. So he uses his
usual lush fabrics and fine detail
ing in a collection designed for
women who don't want to - be
rushed into a too-drastic change.
Maurice Rentner says all wo
men should look like queens or
at the very least princesses this
fall, and so presents the "imperial
silhouette". He places a belt above
a well-defined natural waistline in
his group of "imperial suits",
shows "regal Jacquettes" with
luxurious fur collars and cuffs in
city costumes, initiates the dia
mond decollete in high necked
daytime dresses and dramatises
the "royal flare" in cocktail and
evening gowns with skirts that
flow fractiously from the new high
waistline.
