Under Attack
ALBANY. N.Y. in-Gov. Averell
IIarrimn hat charged that Presi
dent Kisenhower demonstrated
"lark of leadership'' in dealing
with the nationwide tteel strike.
The Governor, a candidate for
the Democratic nomination for
president, said at a- hews confer
ence Tuesday that Eisenhower
"doesn't seem to have any con
ception of the responsibilities of
the presidency."
Harriman held there was a
"lack of understanding" in the na
tional administration "of the func
tions of mediation."
The Governor responded to re
porters' questions on other topics
this way:
. 1. He was "very much encour
aged" by the progress o( his cam
paign.
2. He would include, discussion
of civil rights In a talk Saturday
at a meeting of young Democrats
in Asheboro, North Carolina. .
3. He placed great value on the
"advice and support" of former
president Harry Truman. (Harri
man. had been asked II he thought
Truman's support would be
vital" in winning the nomina
tion.) -
4. Newsmen who wanted to de
termine whether Truman would
support Harriman for the nomina
tion would have to ask Truman.

Miller, 73. prominent Klamath
Falls businessman and .owner of
radio station KFJI, died after a
stroke at his home here 'early
Wednesday.
He came to Klamath Falls in
1910 and was in the construction
business for years. Among his
project were the Lost River di
version dam near Merrill; the
Pelican Theater at Klamath Falls,
the exhibit building at the county
fairgrounds and much work at the
municipal airport.
He built the Willard Hotel, which
he operated for years. He also had
lumber interests around Etna and
Montague, Calil,
He also owned and operated

building slump. The trade journal,
Western Building, reported Wed
nesday that the number of building
permits was down 10 per cent
