Recipes Are Again in Vogue By MAXINE BCREN Statesman Woman's Editor Sour cream cookery, coming back into vogue after a whole gen eration of life without it, has been accepted by many homemakers with great delight. When home refrigerators came into kitchens in great numbers and pasteurized cream became the general rule, sijur cream simply didn't exist. And conditions remained that way foT a long time, for it was morP trouble than it was worth to put in a special order with the milkman for sour cream a day or two ahead. Now however, dairies are furnishing sour cream regularly to their customers and it's available at every grocery store that car ries a good supply of milk and cream. So back we go to sour cream recipes, and perhaps some women of the new generation are short of good ideas. Not so my files, they abound in wonderful ways to use sour cream, though the books may be out of print and the cards in the file yellow with age, the proportions are stilt the same. Take a sour cream cookie for Instance Sour Cream Cookies 1 cup sour cream 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 cups sugar 1 teaspoon soda 1 cup shortening, softened Enough flour to make a 2 beaten eggs" dough that will. roll out Mix in order given and roll out ' Inch thick. Cut in fancy shapes and bake on a greased cookie sheet at 330 degrees for about 10 minutes or until lightly browned. This cookie is an excellent one to cut into fancy shapes for children as they are not too rich, but nicely flavored and will' keep. . Sour cream dressings are famously good for cold slaw or vege table salads. i Sour Cream Dressing 1 cup sour cream 1 teaspoon salt - 2 tablespoons lemon juic lt teaspoon pepper 2 tablespoons vinegar 1 teaspoon prepared mustard 1 tablespoon sugar Beat cream until thick and smooth, mix other ingredients and add to cream while continuing to beat. Mushrooms in sour cream are an elegant gourmet dish to try out on your next extra special guests. Mushrooms la Sour Cream 1 pound mushrooms . Dash of nutmeg 2 tablespoons gutter 4 tablespoons thick cream Bouquet of parsley, green sauce onion tops 2 tablespoons sour cream Salt snd pepper 1 teaspoon chopped parsley Cut mushrooms in 2 or 4 pieces depending upon their size. Dace in a heavy saucepan with butter, bouquet and seasonings. Cook 'gently for IS minutes. Remove bouquet, add sauce and cream and bring to a boil.
