Winter St., city fire man said. Firemen said the blaze appar ently started from s faulty flue. Flames were confined to a small section of the roof, they stated. Car Strikes, Kills Deer A csr driven by s Grand Ronde man struck snd killed a deer at the intersection of Salt Creek and Highway 22 near Grand Ronde about 7 p m. Saturday, state police reported. .Driver of the vehicle was listed by officers as William Lents. . Police said the dead deer was placed in cold storage. Deer kill ed in traffic are normally given to charitable institutions. Death Claims Gity Resident Mrs. Fannie ' J. Cunnynham. a resident of Salem since 1M4, died at a Salem hospital Saturday. She was 70. - Mrs. Cunnyngham suffered a coronary attack in December, 1954, but the cause of her death was not immediately known. Born Nov. JS. 1885. in Sweet Springs, Mo.; Mrs. Cunnyngham lived in Missouri until 12 years ago when she came to Salem from Kansas City, Mo., with her niece, Miss Jane Weinberg, 3340 Abrams Ave., with whom she made her home. Mrs. Cunnyngham' husband, Thomas Benjamin Cunnyngham, died in 1933. . Mrs. Cunnyngham was a mem ber of the First Church of God: Survivors include, in addition to her niece, a daughter, Mrs. L. R. Newland. Los Angeles; a sis ter, Mrs. F. W. Cole, Kansas City. Mo.; two brothers, Charles Weinberg, Woodburn, and .Henry H. Weinberg. Toprka, Kan.; one granddaughter and one great granddaughter. The. morning event will begin at the Capitol Mall and finish at Bush' Park lor a family picnic, and band concert. Speedboat Races ' All of which leads up to an after noon of speedboat races, tugboat tug o Watt, water-skiing ex-i hibitions, and presentation of a fully equipped cabin cruiser to some fortunate spectator at Wal lace Marine Park. Later in the evening there will be the tradi tional July 4 fireworks display. The festival will end with a Queen's Ball at Crystal Gardens. Dentist Study Says Fluoride Drops Bills , CHICAGO An Idaho study by dentists Indicated Saturday that water fluoridation can cut child-; ren'a dental bills by about two thirds. ' - Two" dental ' researchers made that finding suiter investigating conditions In two Idaho towns. The town of Nampa had adequate fluorides In its public water sup plies, but the drinking water was fluoride deficient at the time of the study in the town of Coeur d'Alene. The study of conditions in the year 1951 was made by Dr. Wesley C. Young, dental surgeon of the If. S. Public Health Service, and Dr. Walter J. Pelton. chief of the division of dental resources of the Public Health Service. Their report, published In the journal of the American Dental Association, showed: , - I the cost of operating a dental treatment program for the first year in Nampa was estimated at an average of $17.59 per child,' compared with 152.50 . in Coeur d'Alene. 1 After the first year, the annual maintenance cost of dental treat-! ment was estimated at . about $13 j per child in the fluoride commu nity and nearly $40 in tha non fluoride city. -Among 6 year - old children in Nampm the dental decay rate was 66 per- cent lower than among I-1 year-olds In Coeur d'Alene.
