'' From Roberts' Decorating Studio tW I Apparently the raini have ttopped for nearly every day, we antwer the studio telephone to bear the excited "We're build ing a new house and want to bo moved in by- the first of Sep tember or at least before the csiny season starts." Later we share that excitement when, hav ing met the family, we spread the blueprints between us and talk about new building material! on the market, colon, fixtures, furniture arrangements and dri re tries . . . tlwaya keeping in mind of course, the particular needs of the family. Almost no plans art without i "keeping" or family room. Sometimes this opens o(f the kitchen for very informal liv ing and usually takes the place of a dining room. Perhaps it ad joint the living room ind is used, not only for relaxing in comfort-able- surroundings before the television but for entertaining lirger groups than ran convene ently use the living room. Often, however, especially with the larg er family, such a room is located in the baement where the noise of play ran be kept from the rest of the house. Here one need not take cues of decoration from the 1 adjoining rooms but can feel the abandonment and freedom of do ing something different snd ex citing. Lets do one in the French sidewalk cafe manner by using i red and white awning sewn to get her in alternate strips, on the ceiling, lacking it .firmly on the long wsll and again on the oppo site one to end in scallops under 'a oainted pole trim. We will paint free hand aide work sketch es on one wall or use the new simulated brick wall finish (hard ly diacernable from teal brick ) and paint thit and the other walls white. For our window curtains lets use fringed red burlap looped carelessly over one side to re veal pott of artificial geraniums. A deep, really comfortable red mfa and two matching barrel :hairs would look nice against the rrickeled grey floor. Here use the new spray on paint which gives l rich textured finish of several shadet of one color. Now leti add two sweet little ire crefiw Tablet which we display in our show rooms, idding red ruf fled seat cushions to the match ing rhiirt inoTwe have in excit ing room for entertaining at well it enjovible fimily living.
