In some of the higher regions where the lake fishing was supposed to substitute for poor stream fishing, the snow has been falling in flurries and in sustained storms. I fellow earlier this season (We never did learn his Hi Ml Liu namei who took a five-pound Dolly Varden on a Don Hanrr dry fly. It seems that it was strictly an accident as the big Dolly was not after the dry fly. A small rainbow trout was eagerly chasing the fly with the larger fish chasing it. The little trout made a wild pass at the fly and missed it. The Dolly, with his mouth open made a pass at the trout and got the fly. Shows ou what greed will do. Just give us more greedy fish . . . We heir from a ceuple of anders who nave beta Wickiup recently that thine remain about the same ia the maaaer of taking fish. After trolling most l the day with no results, the aaglers .turned la fly fishing when they noticed continued swirls from feeding trout la the shallows. They immediately hooked fish and although the landing ( the fish was seldom, they had the time or their lives. With the season being as late as it is, Wickiup reservoir should not be troubled with algae bloom much before early July this year. It will mean that the fly f ishiffg around the shallows should get better with each passing day with the majority of the fish running large. One does not need the fine leaders in Wickiup for fly fishing Rasslin'Bear Due at Armory Curt Janlze Signs With Cardinals (Continued from page S3) i handed and is two years younger on the Ardmorc, Okla., club of the 'than Phil. Whether you wade along the shore or fish from a drifting boat you find food fishing at Wickiup for large fish and you'll have plenty of fun . , , Coastal Fishing Still on Poor Side Reports from the coast are few and indicate the fishing as being very poor. Although the bay waters at Newport are filled with herring the salmon have not yet put in an appearance. How ever, it is getting about that time of the year when the big chinook feeders should be closing in on the Yaquina bay herring and any day might see the fishing turn from cold to rod hot, If you are there the day the salmon show up will will have a great time.
