Shrinert Point to Their Biggest Tourney
Salem Shrine Clubbers who sponsor those mammouth benefit
golf tournaments here each June hope the one of next month will be
the biggest ever. There were 2114 entries for last year's record-
breaker, all 284 playing in one day. The meet has been enlarged
to a two-day spread this trip, and although the Shriners don t expect
to double the entry field they do figure on having well over 300
swingers. If they do, they'll top the amount of money gained for
the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Cnildren last year. The l9oi tourney
netted $3,200 for the hospital.
George Alexander, the former master of (he local Disney
land at 5lh and State Streets, Is heading up the tourney com
mittee this year and hat a whopping list of prizes for those whe
will win the various portions ( the meet. It Is designed for all
golfers regardless of whether they shoot 70 or 1"0, and the meet
Rself It annually the biggest of Its kind held In the ttnte . . .
