While it was feared earlier that
the Willamette Valley might be
short of rose for the national
show, the recent warm days, to
gether wtih the extra "babying'
that roM growers have given their
plants, there will be, committee
members say, some excellent
blooms.
Mrs. Nat Schoen, convention
chairman, and no stranger to Sa
lem rose growers, reports that
she believes this will be "an ex
ctllent convention and show".
Rom growers throughout the
valley are giving considerable
credit to Mrs. Schoen (or her ar
rangements (or the show and con
vention.
Three Internationally known
speakers will form one of "the big
drawing cards for the four-day
event.
McGredy to Talk
Sam McGredy, president of the
famous roM firm of Portadown
N. Ireland, will speak at 1:15 p.m.
on June 7. The title of his talk
will be "The Irish Have a Way
with Roses". McGredy has long
ago proved the truth of his state
ment. There's scarcely a rose
grower who does not have at
least one of the varieties that he
or other members of his family
have hybridized. Among these are
Mrs. Sam McGredy. McGredy s
Ivory (one of the frequent top
place winners at the Portland
show), McGredy's YeHow, Rubai-
yat and the much-discussed Grey
Peart, one of the first '"blue
roses.

Lammerts, originator of the first
crandiflora rose, will talk on The
Rom of the Grandinora . This is
scheduled for 11 a.m. on opening
day, June 4.

classes will be held late in the
afternoon with Mrs. Marie Wine-
gar, Eggertsviue, N. Y., in
charge. The coronation of the
Queen of Rosaria of the 48th
annual Rose Show will be attend
ed that night.

at 8 a.m. A delegates-meeting
