The new Russian leaders, who have denounced the dead dictator, were described as still pursuing his goal of world domination but by subtler methods seeking to lull, divide and undermine the free nations. The committee asked 39 educa tors, writers, veterans' organiza tion leaders, labor union heads, ex-Communisls and others to write their views on anti-Stalinism and the recent 20th Congress of the Soviet Communist Party. The views were published in he symposium which the committee entitled "The Great Pretense." In a summation at the end of the booklet, J. Edgar Hoover, di rector of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, said: "When the Communist smirk be gins to change to a smile, as is the case right now, we would be well advised to refocus our sights. Behind those changing spots, the same bad blood still flows through the leopard's veins." Hoover said the "defrocking" of Stalin has brought repercussions in Communist circles over the world and in the United States "confusion and ' disillusionment have developed in .the Communist Party." De fense Wilson called an "exhibition of power for peace." Military posts, bases and sta tions welcomed hundreds of thou sands of citizens for the armed forces day displays. More than 80,000 visitors were counted at nearby Boiling Air Force Base alone, where the Air Force staged a demonstration of Jet fighters and bombers. An important part of the cele bration was concentrated in Wash ington, where it started with a prayer for peace and closed with the noise and smoke of a simu lated atomic bomb explosion. Children screamed and their parents jumped when six of the newest Air Force fighters swooped down over Boiling Air Force Base. Within a few hundred feet of the crowd, they broke through the sound barrier with shattering reports. The Air Force was host to the big show in Washington but shared the aerial demonstrations with the precision flying stunts executed by the Navy s famed Blue Angel team. The Air Force put some of its late model aircraft through their paces. A lone B32 jet powered atomic bomber held the sky to itself for a few seconds but it was quickly followed by flights ot speedy jet fighters whose orders were apparently to thrill the crowd. And they did. Forty-five B47 medium jet bombers flew over proudly in a long column of threes.
