DOSAGE and DOCTORS It is incredible, no less, that an M.D., whose business is pre scribing medications by precision, could be caught favoring public water fluoridation as a means of a controlled dosage of fluorides. The contrary has scientific eredenrr. Following are quotations from s letter by Reuben Frltman, I). U.S., of Newark, N. J. '.'I have been studying the effects of fluoride tablets for m.my years, five of which were financed by grants from the 1. S. Public Health Service I am convinced that if fluorides are to be administered, the tablet method Is safest and most scientific. Rv the use of a tablet, to be taken once daily, made, with chemically pure fluoride of exactly known dosage the optimum amount of fluoride for the desired effect will be ingested. To state that the same can be accomplished by the fluoridation of water is not true because even if the concentration in the water might be kept at a constant level, the quantity of water used by the person is not. Some use very low quantities, others two or three times more . . . One part per million of fluorides Is said to be safe, one and one half parts on the toxic side. By this then, a litre of water a day will give one miiigram of Iluarideiwo litres two milligrams, with increased intake of water an Increased amount of fluoride. No physician would prescribe so toxic a drug to the entire population for life and still maintain his license to practice medicine. By using the tablet method, only those who might benefit from its use will receive the drug." Again, the question Is raised, how could a medical doctor having studied for years the precisian idrolnMrntion nf drug dosage, relai in these standards sufficiently to endorse fluor idation via the city water snpplv? It is indeed incredible! PD. ADV. BY LF.F. BROWN STAYTON, OREGON Rtrkreall. Ore , Mav H Survivpd hy. wife, Annr O Howard. Ru-k re .ill; sister, Mrs. M H McOuire. MrMloo- Ore.
