Stock Market
Rises Sharply
NEW YORK v-The stock mar
ket rallied smartly Tuesday from
a severeearly decline and man
aged to close only moderately
lower.
The Associated Press average
of 60 stocks was down 90 cents at
$184 80. The industrial component
of the average was off $1.30, rails
were down $1.00, and utilities were
off 10 cents. '
The list wasn't particularly
broad with 1.189 individual issues
traded of which 286 were higher
and 662 lower. Only seven stocks
managed new highs for the year
while 112 slipped to new lows.
Volume came to 2,650.000 shares
as compared with 2,440.000 shares
traded Monday.

prices were a good deal better
than those which prevailed an
hour before the finish.
Wheat closed unchanged to S

oats unchanged to 't lower, rye

cents lower and lard 25 to 42 cents
a hundred pounds lower.
Wheat acted better than the rest
of the market all day. Even at
the worst losses never ran much
more than a Cent. The late up
swing followed issuance of the
Weather Bureau's weekly crop re
port. This report was not as optimistic
about improving crop prospects as
many traders had expected it
would be. Some further deterio
ration was noted in the southern
and western sections of the Great
Plains.
There also was a good potential
export business for wheat Tur
key was in the market for 4,100.
