PARIS - Secretary of State
John Foster Dulles agreed with
Britain and France Sunday that
the way to bring peace to the
Middle East is through the U.N.
security Council where any de
cision risks a Russian veto. Then
he took a plane for home.
The French view was that the
decision scrapped the 1950 Big
Three declaration on the Middle
East. But American sources said
the l!r0 statement would still hold
good if U. N. peace ffurt3 failed

Later, Pineau told reporters they
had decided their three countries

cease-fire line in Israel, which Rus
sia did not join. The 1950 agree
ment, he said, no Jonger corres
ponds to Ihe situation.
High American sources did
rot quite agree. They said the
three-power agreement was sub
ject to the members' responsibil
ity to the United Nations. It now
seemed more likely, they said, that
Arab-Israeli issues could be settled
In the security council. But they
emphasized that the 19,"i0 pact still
stands- in case U.N. efforts fail.
Americans said the Big Three
had moved closer to common pol
icies on the Middle East, but there
was still at least one basic dif
ference: The United States does
not want to see a general embargo
on arms to the area; Pineau said
France would favor one.
The United States has an em
bargo of its own, but would like
to see Israel get help from other
countries. France is sending Is
rael its latest jet fighters, the
Mystere IV, but would like to get
tht United States to take some of
the responsibility. A second dozen
Mysteres is due to leave soon for
Israel with American consent.
The first dozen reached Israel
about three weeks ago The en
tire production of the French fac
tory making them is under con
tract to the United States, which
buys them for distribution to its
allies in Europe.

Fountain Gets
Tight on Own
Red Alcohol
LONDON -This is a story of ;
a fountain that got tight on its own'
red wine.
"We wanted something original,"
said socialite Wilfrid Tnorowgood, j
who threw a coming out party for
his daughter Christine." so we set
up a silver fountain that gave out
jets of wine.
"The trouble was fountains are
accustomed to water."
The party carried into the early
hours of this morning at Ihe Mon
key Club.
At the outset the mountain that
sprayed wine was the hit of the
evening. Then something went
wrong.
Scarlet wine cascaded in all di
rections, soaking walls, tablecloths,
frilly frocks and a flowered car
pet. "It was simply a case of a foun
tain getting tight," said Throw
good. "One of the moving uears
tiRhtened up and bang there came
the deluge nf wine."
Actor Arnold's
Estate Goes
To Family
I.OS ANGELES i-The will of
actor Edward Arnold, who died
April 26, bequeaths most of a M,
000 estate to immediate members
of his family.
The will was tiled for probate
Friday. It leaves agricultural prop
erty in Kern County, oil royalties
and most of his personal effects
to his widow, Mrs, Clco Arnold.
Ella Cottcn, a maid, was left $1.
000, and the remainder of the es-,
tate was divided equally among
his three children. Mrs. Elizabeth
Orlando, Mrs Dorothy Ehriuht,
and William E. Arnold; the widow,
and a stepson. Michael R Paris.
Arnold's three children are by
his first wife, Mrs. Harriett Mar-
shaH Arnold. He married the form
er Mrs. Cleo Paris McCain in 1952,
two years after a divorce from his
second wife. Mrs. Olive Emerson
Arnold. He was 66.
