who died Monday in a Salem hos
pital at the age of 49. will he

Mrs Angel was a Salem resident

of the Yakima Project in South
Central Washington, the State Vet
erans Affairs Department an

Veterans' applications must be
filed by June 11 with the Bureau
of Reclamation. Kenncwick. Wash, j
Application forms are available in
Oregon through county veterans
service officers or from the Vet
erans Affairs Department, Salem '
or Portland.
Applicants, to qualify, must have ,
had at least two years of farming
experience, must have assets i
worth $4:100 in excess of liabilities

Brothers' "Oscarette'- (or 1955 as
the outstanding saleslady in the
chain's northwest district of Ore
gon. Washington and Idaho, it was
announced Tuesday.
Leed's Store, where Mrs. Royce
is employed, is th Edison Brothers
outlet in Salem. The company has
275 stores in 138 cities and is de
clared to be the largest exclusive
retailer of women's shoes.
The "Oscarette" is a trophy simi
lar to the movies' "Oscar." It was
presented to Mrs. Royce by Wayne
ltidinger, Salem store manager.

After Fight
Two men charged with disorderly
conduct and drunkenness after a
sidewalk fight early Tuesday morn
ing in the 100 block of South
Commercial Street were fined $40
each on pleading guilty in Muni
cipal Court later Tuesday.
Police said Ralph Fraley. who

hotel, was treated by first aidpien

neyland. The amusement 'park,
that is. 1 would
have thought
that a team of
nine horses
coudn't have
d r a gged me
back alter that
nigh tmarish
opening last
summer, but
time heals all
wounds. It has also worked won
ders for Disneyland itself.
I flew down in a helicopter, and
if you re flying in from New York
the helicopter trip out to Disney
land can be had for an extra S2.
It's worth it A visitor turned loose
on the Los Angeles freeways can
get lost for days.
The park today is everything it
was supposed to have been a year
ago. Quite aside from all its at
tractions. It's clean I could go so
far as to say it's the only reallv
clean amusement park I have ever
seen. Its building and exhibits are
all built to a scale, giving a
wonderful impression of being not
quite real and ;ct at the same
time not just a miniature. It gives
you a sort of Alice in Wonderland
feeling.
The entrance area, of course, Is
that fabulous America! town of
Emergency

Plans for emergency care in
event of late spring flooding
were made at a recent meeting
of the Marion County Disaster
Committee. The organization is
sponsored by the Red Cross.
David Holtzman, committee
chairman, announced appoint
ment of two sub-committee chair-
men. They were Col. Willis Vin
cent, sub-committee on shelter
and L. V. Thirkcll, sub-committe
on clothing.
Other committee members in
clude J. B. Crary, auh-commiltee
on food; Dr. Morris K. Crothers,
medical advisor; Viola Eisenbach, j
nursing care; Anne Chambers,;
Oregon City, mobile disaster

Post Office
Receipts Slip
Reeeinls at Salem Post Office
during April totalled $94,177,
slightly less than March but about
16 per cent above April of a year
ago. Postmaster Albert C. Gragg
reported Tuesday.
The $361,341 received during the
first four months of this year is
about 10 per cent above the same
period last year, Gragg said. Total
last year was $328,821.

What Disney has accomplished
over the years in motion pictures,!
he has accomplished here at this
fabulous park, a dream he nur-1
tured for 20 years. It is enormous
fun (or the entire family without
being a free-for-all for gangs of
wild teen-agers. It has taste and
dignity. And it shows no signs ol
settling down into a stagnating
routine. On the contrary, it is con
stantly being improved and added
to. A number of new rides and
features, including Tom Sawyer's
Rafl, an Indian village, a magic
mountain, more brooks and water-1
ways, Monslro the Whale, Rain-i
bow Caverns and a Painted Desert, j
will be completed and in operation 1
by May 30. A new ride, the Astrn
Jet, is already 111 full iwing, and
a new Wax Museum has been
opened. There is even a new wild
animal act. Prof. George Keller
and his "Feline Fantastics."
We who live In t.os Angeles are
lucky enough to have Disneyland
right in our own backyard. But
for travelers (I have come to dis
like Ihe word "tourists"), Disney
land all by itself is worth a trip to
California, even from Maine.
There Is Just no place like It on
the fare of this earth.
