When almost double in bulk, bake 50-40 minute in mod erate oven. I7J degree F. When cooled, sprinkle with confectioner' augar. Cream together shortening, peanut butter and sugar; beat in egg and choco late. Add flour-nut mixture alter nately with milk. PECAN AND ORANGE STICKS S cups flour 4 teaspoons baking powder 4 teaspoon salt i cup shortening 1 cup powdered sugar 5 eggs, separated 2 cup milk h cup orange juice 1 teaspoon grated orange rind 1 cup chopped pecans Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Cream shortening until soft and smooth and gradually add sugar, creaming until fluffy. Beat in well-beaten egg yolks; add flour mixture alternately with combined milk, orange juict and rind, beat ing until smooth after each ad dition. Stir in nuts and fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in moderately hot oven. Cut in strips. ALMOND COOKIES 1 lb. almond paste 1 lb. sugar Egg white to make stiff paste 1 cup sifted flour 1 teaspoon baking powder Iit teaspoon salt Make a paste of the sugar, al mond paste and egg white, adding egg white a little at a time- Add 'sifted flour, baking powder and salt. Work with the egg white un til paste is the right consistency to pas through a cookie press. Bake. For a special treat, make your youngster a Tit Tat Toe Cake. -Use a cake miv if you like, for the base, baking the batter in two round eight-inch layer pans. When the cake is cool fill and frost it with a fluffy white icing. Then make a tit-tat-toe design on top of the cake, using long gumdrops of one color, cut in halves length wise to make each line. Make the "X'" with long gumdrops of dif ferent colors, cut in halve length wise and crosswise. Use round - gumdrop ring to make the "0'."
