Judge Cal M. Barnhart laid that
petition! bearing 1S2 lignature
had been submitted to the county
court requiting formation of the
district. The proposed district
would aerve about l.V) families in
the Polk County area north of Weit
Salem.
The hearing will consider boun
daries and determine whether the
district should be formed. If. ap
proved, the hearing will be fol
lowed by the nomination of direc
tor through petition. A director
may be nominated by a petition
bearing IS signatures.
' The five nominee receiving the
highest number of votes at an'
election will be elected to the dis
trict board. The election, which
will be scheduled following the ,
hearing, will be at the Brush Col
lege store, Judge Barnhart said.

TURNKR The Rev, N. Sherman
Hawk, M, former pastor of Turner
Methodist Church, died In a La
Grande hospital Friday morning
after an illness of about a year.
Born Oct. 24, IfUW in Van Horne,
Iowa, he came to the P a 1 1 f I c
northwest in 1910 and held pastor
ate In I d a h o, Washington and
Oregon. He was at the Turner
church from 193 to 1938. He was
a member of the Masonic Lodge
and Odd Fellows.
The Rev. Hawk Is survived by
one daughter, Miss Kathrya Hawk
with whom he had been staying at
La Grande; sons, Daniel N. Hawk
of Clntskanie, and John S. Hawk
of Salem; six grandchildren, and
three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held In
La Grande at i p.m. Monday with
burial in the La Grande cemetery.
