Cancer Drive

MT. ANGEL Mt. Angel will
hold Us annual cancer drive dur
ing the month of April, the
house-to-house canvass for funds
starting next week. The drive is
sponsored by the American Le
gion Auxiliary unit
Mrs. Peter Gores is captain of
the Mt. Ansel district. Mt. Angel
has had a number of cancer
victims who benefited from the
funds of the Cancer Socitcy.
A number of surrounding areas
are included in the Mt. Angel
district for which the workers
have already been appointed by
Mrs. Gores.
Chairman for Marquam is Mrs.
Alfred Oster, assisted by Mrs.
L. E. Pawuin, Mrs. George Al
bright, Mrs. Eldon Barth and
Mrs. Cecil Judd.
Mrs. Wilbert Homann will take
over Monitor. Mrs. Fred LuCht,
the Meridian district, Mrs. Mike
Landwing Scotts Mills and part
of Crooked .Finger, and Mrs.
Paul Fennimore, the rest of
Crooked Finger.

Mrs. Adora Hanson has been
appointed chairman of a com
mittee to suggest names of school
district 24CJ's two new Junior
high schools. At the club's re
cent meeting, Mrs. Vernon Glass
told members about plans for
various schools of the district to
submit names.
Mrs. Glass also emphasized the
importance of increased Interest
in teaching science in grade
schools and Junior highs.
The room prize for attendance
went to Mrj.Vivian Clark's room.
A cake sale to provide funds
for the community Cub Scout
treasury will be held Saturday
at the East Side Market on Lan
caster Drive. Mothers of Cub

ALBANY Gov. Elmo Smith was
an unscheduled speaker at the
Farm and Home Outlook Confer
ence here Thursday. About 100
farmers attended the event at
which Dr. Burton Wood of Oregon
State College farm economics de
partment discussed farm problems.
Gov. Smith also spoke briefly at
the Kiwanis Club meeting here
Thursday.

Miss Ruth Wilde. Mt. Angel, at the

grimage contest to be in ealem,

More than 100 guests were
present at the week's meeting,
among them the master of the
grand lodge of Oregon, W. Robert
Massey of Salem. Massey super
vised the showing of a film strip
of a prevfous Youth United Nation
Krip across Canada.

will represent Albany in the Ore
gon Division of the Mrs. America
contest, it was reported Thursday
by sponsors of the contest.
Mrs. Wilson is a cook at Albany
Union High School. She will com
pete in the state finals April 12 at
Portland. The winner- will be elig
ible for the national contest at
Dayton Beach, Fla.

LEBANON Services for Mrs.
Neva McFarland, 87, a resident of
Lebanon and Corvallis since 1915,
will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday
at the Presbyterian Church with
interment at Lebanon Masonic Ce
metery. Mrs. McFarlan died Tuesday at
Forest Grove. Survivors include a
son, Donald R. McFarland, Salem.
