snowcat loaded with 200 pounds of
food reached a mine Friday night
where six persons had been strand
ed since Feb. 13. A radio report
from the tracked vehicle said they
were all well.

here for the California - Oregon
Power Co., said Jim Smith of his
firm had headed a rescue party
of four that reached the mine at
11:30 p.m., after a 10-hour trip
from Medford, Ore., over snow-
blocked roads.
The six persons were isolated
at Azalea Mine No. 1 in Califor
nia's Del Norte County, six miles
north of Gasquct.
They are: Walter Freeman, mine
foreman from Grants Pass, Ore.;
Mr. and Mrs. James Perry of Sea
side, Ore., the mi- owners; and
three persons from Cave Junction,
Ore. Lou Lively, "Pop" Miller
and Larry Lee.
