A US. 500 personal injury suit
was filed in Marion County Circuit
Court Monday for damages alleg
edly incurred in an accident in
volving a pedestrian and auto
mobile on North Capitol Street
Jan. 4.
Filing the suit is Rosa Sue Port
er whose complaint names Leona
Mae Killinger as the driver of the
car. The plaintiff seeks iVX) speci
fic damages to pay for what she
alleges were doctor and medical
expenses. The J15.000 is for general
damages, the complaint asserts.

years, died Sunday at a Stayton
hospital. '
Byrkit has resided here for the
past two years and prior to that
was a farmer in the Shaw sector
for some five years. He was born
Aug. I, 1891, in Clay County Nebr.
He was a member of the Ameri
can Legion and the Disabled Amer
ican Veterans organization.
Funeral services are set for 1:30

Pacific Plywood Co. is entering
the paper producing industry
through the formation of a sub
sidiary, which will build a 90. 000
ton kraft and pa per board mill at
Toledo. Ore., it was announced
Monday.
Industry sources say such a
plant would cost between 20 and
25 million dollars.
Owen R. Cheatham, president
of Georgia-Pacific, said the sub
sidiary would be known as Georgia-Pacific
Paper Co. and would
have its headquarters in Port
land, Ore.
Cheatham announced the elec
tion of H. Stuart Daniels as pres
ident of Georgia-Pacific Paper.
Daniels, currently president of
the Kraft Paper Assn., has re
signed as executive vice president
and general sales manager of
Union Bag it Paper Corp. to take
the post.
South Salem
Club Opposes
Zone Chance

disapproval of a proposed zone
change at Kearney and High
streets.
The zone change has been sought
to permit construction of a medi
cal clinic at the southwest corner
of the intersection.

Man Faces
Drunk Charge
Investigation of a family dis
turbance early Monday morning
resulted in the arrest of a Salem
man on charges' of drunkenness
and carrying a concealed weapon,
city police report.
Officers said Bud Harrell. 1393
N. Commercial St., was fined $20
on the drunk count and commit
ted to jail in lieu of payment.
Provision was made for dismissal
of the concealed weapons charge
when the fine is paid, police said.
The man, arrested near his
home, was charged with carrying
a concealed weapon after a
switch-blade knife was found la
I pocket, according to officers.

2 Burglaries
Investigated
Two weekend burglaries of priv
ate residences were investigated
Monday by Marion County Sheriffs
deputies.
One entry was made sometime
between 4 p.m. Sunday and Mon
day morning by breaking through
the glass of a rear door of the
H. G. Brock home at 2680 Bluff St.
An undetermined number of fire
arms, whisky and possibly a film
projector were taken, the sheriffs
office reported.
The other burglary occurred be
tween 1:30 and 10:10 p.m. Sunday
at the home of Ernest E. Weiss,
630 E. Vista SL A kitchen window
was forced and loot that included
wine, whisky, two fishing poles and
reels, and both male and female
clothing was taken.

Rotary Award
For Study Abroad

Kirkmire, Eugene, has been
awarded a Rotary Foundation fel
lowship ax advanced study abroad
during the 1936-57 academic year,
it was announced Monday.
He received one of 128 grants,
which average $2,500.
Kirkmire will study forestry Tn

Britain. He was recommended tor
the fellowship by the Rotary Club
of Springfield. Ore.
Drivers Crack
Ribs in Accident
Each of two motorists suffered
a cracked rib Monday in a traffic
accident at 14th and Court streets,
according to city police.
Officers listed the two drivers
as Ivar Berglund. 955 S. High St.,
and Mrs. Helen Kergil, 263 S. Lan
caster Dr. Both were taken by
Willamette ambulance to Salem
General Hospital but each was re
leased shortly. Both vehicles in
volved required services of tow
cars.
