Grand jury ha indicted 20 men on
charges of running a million-dollar
itolen car racket which authorities
said was master-minded from a
ce.1 In Leavenworth, Kan., Fed
eral prison.

ing a five-year term for car theft
He said Vigorlto ran the racket to
make money to pay his legal bills.
Vigorito, known as the ' King of
car thiefs." 'relayed his order to
the ring through his son, Sabato,
37, who would come to the prison
to visit him, Gliedman said.
Changed Cars (
The government- attorney said
the cars were brought to New York
from surrounding states where
they were stolen by specialists for
a fee of $250 each. The ring then
painted the cars, changed the en
gine numbers and parts and forged
new papers.

Besides Sabato, the sons Indicted
with the father are John, 31, of
Amity Harbor, N.Y., and Frederick
G., 33, of Brooklyn.
A nephew, Sylvester J. Fiolo,
34, now in Sing Sing prison for
auto thefts, is one of those already
in jail. The others are Albert J.
Plakstis, 41, and Nicholas Lardii
zone, 29, both in Rikers Island
penitentiary, and Joseph A. Ric
citelli, 62, in Sing Sing.
They were all charged wilh
violating the National Motor
Vehicle Theft Act.

is none of my affair."
McKay said there are some
projects beyond the reach of local
people where the federal govern
ment should step In and help.

Sunday kidnaped five persons from
a South Side saloon' after offering
to "whip any hillbilly in the
place."
He slashed two men who tried
to quiet him. He prodded the
frightened passengers into a stolen
taxicab and drove west out of Chi
cago, threatening "If the cops
catch up with me, I'll kill you
people and myself."
One man escaped through a ruse
25 miles from Chicago. The drunk
released three of the others, and
drove on another 13 miles where
he raped, the last passenger, - a
young woman, and set her free,
police related.
