doing it for 26 years!
Taghap's profession is formally
known as "fish-smeller" and in
volves sniffing about 2,000,000 al
becore and 50,000,000 yelk) wf in and
skipjack as an inspector in tuna
canneries.
The fish-smeller works directly
behind the butchers and, somewhat
like a curious bloodhound, inspects
fish as they go down the assembly
belt to the huge cookers. Taghap
has the reputation of being able to
scent a bad tuna at 100 yards.
And he didn't become a "fish
smeller" overnight. He spent sev
eral years as a fisherman and
working in canneries to acquire

Edison Co. which now is pioneer
ing a 45 million dollar nuclear
power plant, says it will build a
second and third plants within
the next decade.
"And we should be able to pro
duce power at a profit with the
second installation," says Robert
W. Hartwell, director of the com
pany's nuclear power develop
ment Edison's .first power plant,
which it is building with a group
of associate utilities, will be in
operation by 1960. Hartwell says
the cost of operatng the first re
actor will be about $450 a kilo
watt hour compared to $80 to
$90 for conventional fuels. "We'll
chalk that one up to research and
development," he added.
