' "The outlets are certainly there.
Dramatic shows, both . lire : and
film, 30 minutes and one hour, are
all over the channels. The demand
far exceeds xthe supply of good
things. j .--..
Good Paying Medium
"And 4" the past two years at
least, ..the price '.for scripts have
gone up and up until there is no
better paying medium for a writer
for the effort required. A one-hour
TV script is worth considerably
more than a short story for a mag
azine except in rare cases. And the
price for the original television use
may be the least of the rewards
now that movie and stage produc
ers are keeping a sharp eye on
every TV dramatic show with a
view to acquiring material that can
be expanded to their purposes."
Montgomery has a reading staff
that scans every source of material
constantly original TV.
Fiction and articles, fiction and
non-fiction in the book field, news
papers and even dusty classics.
Almost anything may be
grist for adaptation, which is anoth
er lucrative TV field for writers.

If I had 100 scripts stockpiled, I

There's no letup in the Montgom

only relief Montgomery gets dur

"lead'ins" on film. Otherwise he's
at his desk as usual giving as much
time as ever to lining up material.

Tiny Kingdom j
Up for Sale j
Near Britain ;
. LONDON (INS) One of the .
world's -lew remaining kingdoms
is up for sale to the highest bid
der. .'. ; " - '.'.; V . j -' I
It is the tiny island of Lundy,
20 miles off the southwest' coast
of Britain and the asking price
for the entire' island plus the:
rights and privileges of monarch'
is $125,000 or the best offer.
r Lundy is temporarily kingless
as a result of the death recently
of London financier Martin Coles
Harman, who had the misfortune
of expiring without leaving an
heir to ascend his "throne,"
The island is one of those tra-,
dition-drenched old-world oddi
ties which for eight centuries has
enjoyed the status of a virtually,
independent enclave. '
Since 1135 when King Stephen
granted it a royal charter, Lun
dy's lords have reserved to them
selves the xights of. sovereignty r
over their pocket domain.
To, this day whoever owns the
island pays no income tax. and'
has the right to mint his own
coins, print postage stamps and
import whatever he wishes free ;
of -custom duties. r
He also can control fishing in
his coastal waters, deny anyone '
he chooses permission to land
and evict all who incur his dis-'
pleasure. He has 15 "subjects' -
island residents who take their '
livelihood from Lundy's rocky '
soil.
Recent lords of Lundy have "
avoided putting their precise
powers to the test with the Brit
ish government. Harman, who,
when he purchased the island,
inherited with it a horde of an-t
cient documents, claimed Lundy
was completely independent- of
Britain and that he owed allegi-
ances to no one except Queen !
