Grains Kally

CHICAGO (It Perxltent
strength in wheat futures brought
late rallies in other grains and
soybeans on the Board of Trade
Wednesday.
Wheat was a cent: or more a
bushel higher most of the day.
Corn and soybeans had been some
what weak most of the day. but
rallied to finish with slight sains.
L, Wheat closed 1 to 1 higher,
fcorn to up, oats ahead cto
. rye to 1 up. and lard 5
cents a hundred pounds higher to
8 .tents lower.
Reports of high winds and dust
storms in the Southwestern winter
wheat belt was the main buying
influence in wheat. Tha dust has
hit several wheat-producing states,
including Eastern Colorado, Texas,
Oklahoma and Kansas.
Traders said advances in cash
wheat prices in Minneapolis and
Southwestern markets Tuesday
also was a help to wheat prices.

No Apology
To McCarthy
WASHINGTON (UP) Sen.
Arthur V. Watkins (R-Utah), who
headed the committee which rec
ommended that the Senate censure
Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy, said
Wednesday no apology is due the
Wisconsin Republican because "he
has not been purged of contempt."
McCarthy asserted Tuesday
that a $1056.75 federal tax refund
has vindicated his Financial opera
tions. He told a news conference
that members of two Senate com
mittees who looked into his con
duct owe the American people
an apology.
No apologies are in order from
the Senate committees or the Sen
ate." Watkins said. "As far as I
am concerned, none will be forth
coming.
McCarthy's "apology" statement
yesterday was directed at the Wat
kins Committee and at a Senate
Elections subcommittee which
raised questions about his finances
and other matters in 1932. Last
summer the Senate "condemned"
McCarthy's conduct on two counts
basing its action partly on Mc
Carthy's conduct towards the two
committees.
Meanwhile, Secret Service Chief
U. E. Baughman said his agency
wants to find out who made copies
of McCarthy s refund check in an
apparent violation of federal law.
