The state fairgrounds win take
en a festive atmosphere Thursday,
Friday and Saturday, April 21-23
as the Salem Downtown Lions club
presents its second annual Home
and Garden show. Highlighted by
a wide range of- exhibits and pro
fessional variety acts, the show is
pea to the public, free -of charge.
- Purpose of the show is to dis
may the most recent trends and
developments in home furnishings,
garden equipment and interior and
exterior decorating. Exhibits' will
be centered in an array of hand
somely arranged booths located
under the fairgrounds grandstand.
-Officials said Saturday that all
exhibit space, has been sold out
to Salem area manufacturers,
wholesalers and retailers and dis
pensers of various home and gar
ien items.
An added allure for the public
will' be the giving away of numer
ous merchandise prizes. '1 -
-The second edition of the Lions
colorful production will be held
Thursday and Friday evenings and
both afternoon and night on Sat
urday. Fields Merck, general
chairman for the - show.' said
crowds at i this year's event are
expected to exceed the 10,300 total
of 1954. ! , .
The variety show, comprised of
a professional cast, will perform
mightly. . Acts include the Har
monicats; singer Roxanne White
sell; pantominist Chuck Olson; ad
agio dance duo Ted and Sandra;
andjhe Daydreamers. a girls' trio.
Emcee will be Carl Hawley, Port
land, well known as Mr. Talent on
KPTV.

ber as it had the previous Sep
tember. Favoring the rapid expansion
of his business is the low electric
rate in the Salem area and
throughout the Pacific Northwest
The panels, while made of glass,
are tremendously strong. Only a
quarter-inch thick, they "safely
withstand a blow of 2700 pounds
per square inch. At full heat
water from a garden hose could
be sprayed on them without
breaking them, and the panels
have successfully passed severe"
abuse tests in laboratories as well
as homes.
Panels are of fully tempered
glass into which is fused an alum
inum grid, which radiates infra
red "sunshine" rays when electric
current passes through it Long
life is assured by total lack of ex
posed or moving parts.
In the Salem area many of the
installations have gone into
homes converting from other
types of heat. " . "1
Construction industry leaders
predict a big swing to "stmshine
heat" wherever, as In the Salem
area, electric rates are reasonable
about half the average for the
nation.
