Shotput King Weds

Parrv O'Brien. Olvmnie and Pan-
American shotput champion, and
attractive Sandra Cordrev. a 21-
year-old Southern California coed,
were married in the civil registry
office Wednesday.
The ceremony was performed by
Prospero Olivares Sosa. famous
marrying judge of Mexico Cjty.
The 23-year-old O'Brien, holder
of the world shotput record, won
the shotput and finished second in
the discus in thegcurrent Pan -American
games. ASouthern Cali
fornia graduate, O'Brien now is
stationed at the Travers Air Base
near San Francisco.

Ted Continues In Retirement

Ted Williams since Feb. 25 and
that rumors the slugging outfield

retiring "are all news to me."
"We are hoping, of course, that
he will change his mind,' Crdnin

is news to us."
Williams, one of the great hit
ters of modern times, retired after
the 1954 season. He now is living
at a fishing camp in Southern
Florida.

athletes, involved in a trip made
or to be made by them in different
areas of the world, including Lat

Brundage, . International . Olympic
president, said Tuesday these trips
subjected the United States to the
same kind of . criticism that , has
been levelled against. Russia, and
might impair amateur standing.
"Both the armed forces and. the
State Department have been most
cooperative with the AAU, which
has encouraged and is encourag
ing sponsorship of trips by our top
American athletes," . Wilke said.
"We . are pleased to contribute to

with peoples throughout the world
through amateur athletics."
