Attendants at Salem Memorial Hospital reported Wednesday evening that the victim, William T. Murphy, was making rapid re covery and appeared to be in sat isfactory condition. He was hos pitalized about 11:30 a.m. after being rescued from the apart ment located at 640 Marion St Police were called to the build ing by Murphy's landlady, Mrs. Margaret Albnch, who said she became alarmed after she was unable to arouse the elderly man. The apartment was locked from the inside. After regaining consciousness, Murphy told police he had suf fered a dizzy spell and fallen against a gas pipe. Police said the pipe had apparently been jarred loose, causing gas to leak into the room. Murphy was taken to the hos pital by Willamette Ambulance attendants summoned by the po lice. City first aidmen were also called to the address. Men Bound Over To Grand Jury On Check Charge Two men returned here from Eugene on a bogus check charge were bound over to the Marion County Grand Jury Wednesday. : The men are Ramon Mendez, 25, New York City, and Reginald Hyde Porter, 22, Logan, Wash. They are accused of passing a worthless check for $25 at Ladd & Bush bank on Jan. 22. Officers said that the men also cashed two other bad checks for $25 each on the same day at two other banks. In a signed statement officers added, Men dez said he cashed the checks while Porter waited outside the banks. The men i were arrested at Eugene Monday and were bound over from district court man was chosen by last year's president of the Chamber Wil ham Hammond.
