DALLAS The March of Dimes
campaign will reach a climax here
Saturday with a Block of Dimes
contest and the annual dance.
Twenty organizations of Dallas
are banding together to assure a
successful drive, declared William
Richter, chairman of the Polk
County polio chapter.
The dance will be from f p.m.
to I a.m. at Dallas Armory, musfc
being furnished by George Mason's
Melodiers.
Intermission entertainment, will
be provided by the Dallas Lions
Club, according to the dance sched
ule released by Mrs. Garry Han
son of the polio chapter.
Highlight ot the daytime activi
ties will be the Block of Dimes
contest a challenge affair between
the Dallas Lions and Jaycees.
This is the third year the two
clubs have engaged in the rivalry
and, in the past, it has produced
a lot of fun and many dimes.
Contest chairmen are Loren Sie
bert of the Jaycees and Darrell
Williams of the Lions.
The annual pore Might parade
for March of Dimes will again be
conducted by the Jaycettes. Date
for the event is Jan. 31.
Meanwhile, Richter reported that
over $325 had been received to date
from coin cards returned through
the mails. Five county grade
schools turned in $42 donated by
students.
Richter has asked the other
schools to hold their receipts until
later in the month in order to
get the best possible coverage in
the campaign collections,

Obituaries
Alfred J. La Chance
Willamina Funeral services
were held Wednesday from the
Grand Ronde Methodist Church
for Alfred J. LaChance, 15, who
died at the result of an automo
bile accident. The Rev. Royce
Coan officiated, , and interment
was in wana Jttonae cemetery.
LaChance was born at Chemawa
Aug. 1, 1940, the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ralph LaChance. He has
lived at Grand Ronde most of his
life, and was an eighth grade stu
dent at Grand Ronde Grade School,
Survivors include his parents; a
brother, Alvin LaChance of Rose
burg; a sister, Elinore Chrowder
of Riverside, Calif.; and his grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben La
Chance of Grand Ronde and Mr,
and Mrs. A. J. Hudson of Salem
A brother, Ralph Jr., preceded
him in death last February from
an accidental gunshot wound.
