Takin the romantic sootlkht
today is pretty, blonde Ann Gib-1
bens, only daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Harvey W. Gibbens, whose
engagement to Lt James R. Todd,
USMC, eldest son of Mr. and I
Mrs. Roy T. Todd, is being an-
nounced. the surprise news was
first revealed at a Christmas cof-
fee Wednesday morning for which
Mrs. Gbibens and Mrs. Todd were
hoftesses at the former's Sag
inaw Street home.
Pictures of the engaged duo
were arranged on the coffee ta
ble, which was covered with a
green satin cloth. At one side
was a tree of red hearts with the
names of Ann and Jim written
in white and banked with sprays
of holly. The wedding is planned
for February and will take place
in Salem.
Presiding at the coffee urn was
Mrs. Clyde C. Gilbert and assist-

Portland, sister-in-law of Mrs.
Gibbens, and Mrs. John French.
The rooms were festive with holi
day decorations, candles and a
lighted tree.
Miss Gibbens, a talented young
musician, attended Willamette
University on a Rotary scholar
ship and graduated from the Cin
cinnati Conservatory of Music in
June, where she also received a
scholarship. She is a member of
Pi Beta Phi sorority and Mu Phi
Epsilon, national music honorary.
The bride-elect is now studying
on a scnoiarship for her master's
degree at the Cincinnati Conserv
atory.
Lt Todd graduated last June
from Oregon State College, where
ne attended on a NROTC schol
arship. He is a member of Sig
ma rm Epsilon fraternity. He
recently graduated from the Ma
rines Officer's Training School at
Quantico, Virginia, where he is
now attending administrative
school The date of the couple's
wedding depends on the date his
schooling is completed.
Holiday Party
For Chapter

was held Tuesday evening at the
nome oi Mrs. Bessie Loomis for
the members of the Beta Omicron
chapter, Beta Sigma Phi. The
table was decorated with the holi
day . motif, the centerpeice of
frosted pink greens surrounding

Following the dinner the mem
bers visited several convalescent
homes and sang Christmas carols
by candlelight. During the evening
a surprise jovial Santa arrived and
presented gms, wnicn were
brought by the members for ex
change, also a snowball candle
was presented to the members by
the hostess.
