MORRIS OPTICAL CO. 444 State Si. - Phona 5-5521 1 20 years imprisonment for first offender peddlers All Oregon auto drivers would be required to be retested every two years as to driving ability under provisions of another bill signed by girl governor Shirley Blush of Salem. Defeated after lengthy debate were a bill calling for the death penalty for drunk drivers who caused other persons deaths and a bill seeking a $500 to $1000 fine for persons convicted of selling liquor to minors. New Premier Pleads for Public Support PARIS (m Pledged to win peace in Indochina in a month or resign, Premier Pierre Mendes - France broadcast to the nation Friday night an appeal for moral support The time has come, he said, "to rid ourselves of four incredulities, of our divisions, of our timidities.' The 47-year-old son of a Jewish manufacturer of women's clothing, Mendes-France recorded the two minute speech at his home for broadcast on the French national network after a day of interviewing prospective ministers for his new Cabinet. It was generally believed he would act as his own foreign mini ster and might go to Geneva on Monday to carry on direct nego tiations with the Communists for peace in Indochina. His appearance at the Geneva conference could give an unpre dictable turn there to the negotia tions, and could result in conces sions which the United States would be unable to accept Reds Demand French Quit In Indochina GENEVA 0f France's new Premier Pierre Mendes France will face a Communist demand that French troops pull out of Indochina as part of any armistice agreement when and if he comes to Geneva next week. Red China's Chou En-Lai and the Vietminh Foreign Minister Pham Van Dong made this clear at a closed session of the Indo china conference Friday. Both de manded that "all foreign troops" must be withdrawn simultane ously. This could mean only French troops since Dong insisted there were no Vietminh soldiers in Laos and Cambodia. There are only "resistance movements" in these two states, he said, describing them as "powerful facts." The French have called these Red puppet regimes "phantoms.
