'Strike It Rich' Still Beats Bad Reviews By EVE STARR HOLLYWOOD MISERY LOVES COMPANY "Strike It Rich" (CBS) is still going strong in spite of a lambssting from every quarter. The show's had a string of adverse review as long as its '--vy-T of Pr08Pectiv contestants. But warren Hull vs I stitl clicks. t I Hopefuls, of course, must be as poor as church M mice or standing in for a friend as badly off or worse. A stand-in for a needy friend paid her fare from down south in hopes of winning a new wheel chair but simple arithmetic proved it was hardly worth the effort or the trip. A young lad forced to reveal the most degrading of circum stances of his poverty-ridden family life, won the where-with-all for a suit of clothes but we wonder if his character wouldn't have been strengthened if he'd faced the world with silence, instead of a pair of overalls. On it goes, this show, in the name of entertainment and in the name of Heaven, we don't know why! CRITICS CORNER TALENT IN UNIFORM: Ar thur Godfrey's always entertaining Talent Scouts (CBS) show took an interesting twist Monday night when ht went all out for the Army, Navy and Air Force. Pre senting some very clever winners of the Armed Forces talent contest, as we predicted talent shows all over the country would be doing, he gave us a good idea of how vast an array of accomplished entertainers there must be in military service. Many a performer near the top in the worthy Armed Forces contest are build ing a reputation upon tuhich to capitalire token their hitch is over. Finals will be held and shown on TV from New York next month. The services have produced some fine entertainers in the past. Arthur himself is a Navy man and a flyer to boot, so we weren't a bit surprised when his was the first show of national scope to give the uniformed lads a boost. One of the best entertainers to develop in service and emerge an immediate national star was Eddie Pea body, who came bouncing out of the Navy two dozen years ago with a banjo and a lively personality that captured the country. We've lost track of him now, but he was a popular boy in his day. Much credit is due Arthur for his helpful attitude towards talent in or out of uniform, but more is due him right now, we feel, for the work he continues with under what must be great physical and mental stress. It's no secret now that Godfrey is Teally quite ill, and his pals are urging him to take off and visit the Mayo Clinic. You'd never know he was suffering from the way he was his usual self Monday night, the like able, carnal emcee pi ring a needed hand to the up and coming. We give Arthur a great big hand in re turn. e e e K MILLION BUCKS AND A MILLION FANS: Ever actually see a full million dollars? Art Baker fans laid wide eyes on exactly that sum Monday night but preventing any stray hands from do ing likewise a string of cops stood behind the stacks of S'a and 108 with pistols raised and as far as we know, cocked and primed. A very impressive sight it was and a heap of considerable size. Just one more obliging answer to the wide variety of requests dumped upon "You Asked for It" (ADC) and produced by the able and masterful Art Baker. While camera work here often goes a little sour or wild, it's always excused by difficult subject matter which would hold your interest if the film jerked like an ancient nickelodeon.
