NEW YORK OP The stock
market cast aside its hesitancy
Thursday and advanced substanti
ally. The rise took the Associated
Press average of 60 stocks up to
the neighborhood of the levels seen
.after the big crash of 1929.
The average gained yW cents at
$124.80, a level near the peak of
1930 and around the point where
the average stood in October 1929
after the disastrous crash that her
alded the great depressiort.
Since last September, the stock
market has been advancing stead
ily, and in recent weeks it has been
near the 1930 peaks with new high
marks being established almost
daily.
The industrial components of the
Associated Press average was up
60 cents at $169.40, equal to the
previous high, rails gained 90 cents
at a new high of $92.20, and util-

lows for the year were recorded
during the day.
Volume came to 2,070,000 shares
as compared with 2,170,000 shares
traded Wednesday.
