On 80th Birthday

rie Tyler was the honor guest on
her 80th birthday at a picnic
Sunday afternoon at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Thyker
in their private picnic park. A de
corated birthday cake furnished
by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. N. F.
Tyler, centered the large picnic
table.
The 64 guests present were re
latives, neighbors and friends
from Woodburn, Newport, Salem,
Portland, Cams and Elliott Pra
rie. Her three children and their
families. Mr. and Mrs. N. F. Ty
ler. Norman and Tommy of Wood
burn, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Wil
son, Eddy, Bonny and Mary of
Newport and Mr. and Mrs. Char

building at 1:30 p.m. This club,
composed of men and women 65
years and older, is inviting to all
interested people to join the
group. The program today wilt
consist of proverbs, music, games
and refreshments.

Part in Junior
Weekend

EUGENE The "Freahmen
Frolic" in Fenton Pool, Thursday,
started Junior Weekend off with
a splash. Tradition violators
Gloria Stolk and Pat Deeney were
forcably "cooled off" by Order-of-the-0
members and a crowd of
brave spectators soon followed
suit.
A demand bid for Chuck Hug
gins and Ann Ritchey, as well as
many other violatera or "0" ac
quaintances, kept the campus de
serted by all 'land lubbers'. How
ever, many, in 'true Duck fashion'
took to the water.
Vivienne Brown, Pat Deeney
and ally Jo Greig were among the
many tired students at the Terrace
Dance following the All-Campus
Clean-up. The Junior Weekend
Court was introduced and included
Nancy Murrow, Spokane, Janet
Miller, Oregon City, Dorothy Kopp,
Eugene, and Alma Owens and
Janet Wick of Portland.
The Freshmen-Sophomore Tug-O-War
stopped mill race workers
on the floats for the parade Friday
afternoon due to locational haz
ards. Sophomore men, including
Jim Matheison, outnumbered by
the freshmen. 3 to 1, took the first
swim of the afternoon, but the mfll
race accepted everyone present
before the spectators and victors
could run for dry safety.
At the Junior Prom, "Tradition
Review." Friday night, Janet
Wick was crowned Junior Weekend
Queen. Julie Miller headed the
program committee for the most
important dance of the year and
Phil Ringle, Roger Middleton and
Pat Deeney were among the many
enjoying the music of Ernie Fields.
Mothers' Weekend officially be
gan Saturday morning with the
Mothers' Breakfast but many en
joyed Friday's entertainment.
Gloria Stolk and Sally Jo Greig
were publicity co-chairmen of the
weekend 'for Mom'.
Tapped to Honorary
Mrs. Urlin Page saw her son,
Scott, tapped by Asklepiads. pre
medical honorary, at the All Camp
us luncheon. Three other honor
aries also marched among students
and their mothers, tapping pros
pective members.
In the parade of Saturday after
noon, Vivienne Brown rode on the
winning float entitled "Pomp and
Circumstance" submitted by Kap
pa Alpha Theta. Atop another of
the 21 entries was Pat Collins on
the Delta Zeta "Commonwealth".
Linda Heider, youngest daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Heider, was
on the Chi Psi Gamma Phi Beta
Kappa Sigma entry, "Drifting and
Dreaming".
Marching in full dress on a sultry
afternoon, members of the ROTC
were "on review". Officers Phil
O'Keefe and Tom Angle, as wtll
as over 600 other men, marched
before the spectators which in
cluded Mrs. Mildred Angle, Tom's
mother.
Heading the all-campus sing of
Saturday evening was Ann Ger
linger of Dallas. Mrs. Earl Heider
and Sharon, Mrs. James Walton
and Jelf, and Sharon Brown with
her parents, the Keith Browns,
heard Campbell Club and Carson
Hall take top honors.

is now stationed at Ford Ord,

corsage of roses for her daugh
ter's wedding. Mrs. Elliott chose
a grey suit with white accessories
and corsage of pink roses.
A reception followed in the fire
place room with Mrs. J. S. Mat
thews cutting the cake. Pouring
were Mrs. C. G. Abbott and Mrs.
Gil Ogden.
When the couple left on their
wedding trip the new Mrs. Elliott
wore a pink and aqua print dress
with black patent leather acces
sories, and pink top coat. The
newlyweds will Ive in Salem.
