tana and Wyoming. Mrs. Nord
fors will speak on "The Role of
the PTA in Building Our Fu
ture." Immediate past president of
the Washington Congress oi Par
ents and Teachers, Mrs. Nordfors
was previously a vice president
of the state congress and chair
man of its committees on legis
lation, membership and program.
She has also been president of
the Grant Preschool P TA in Ta
coma and of the Tacoma Council
of PTA's, and has held offices in
local units in elementary, junior
high and senior high schools.
In community activities she
has given her support to . many
groups that are concerned with
community betterment and the
welfare of children and youth.
Mother of a professional Girl
Scout worker, she was also ac
tive in the Girl Scout movement
herself both in Tacoma and
Longview. Since 1950 she has
been a member of the Washing
ton State Council for Children
and Youth, the state committee
appointed in connection with the
Midcentury v hite House Confer
ence on Children and Youth. In
1948 she was chosen as the
"Woman of Achievement" for
Cowlitz County.
Mrs. Nordfors is a member of
the American Association of Uni
versity Women and of the Amer
ican Legion Auxiliary. She is
also a member of Altrusa Inter
national. men. Oregon Congress.

Methodist Church. The display
has been assembled by a com
rtiittee under the direction of
Vernon Olsen and Boyd Hilles
land. Exhibits include space for
safety; recreation and youth
groups; National Parent-Teacher
Magazine and Congress publica
tions; OEA and teacher recruit
ment; parent education; health;
international relations; tuition
scholarship; reading and library
service; civil defense; educa
tional television, and others.
Also of interest to delegates
is the display of publicity record
books and Drozram booklets. A
special gold seal "Exhibited at
the OCPTA 1954 Convention" will

MRS. HELMER LINDSTROM
Presiding over the 41st convention of the Oregon Congress
of Parents and Teachers will be Mrs. Helmer Lindstrom of As
toria, president Mrs. Lindstrom was first vice president of the
Oregon Congress for three years previous to being elected pres
ident She was vice president of Region 10, and recording aec
retary for the Oergon Congress, president of Clatsop County
Council, president of John Jacob Astor, and Astoria High School
PTA. She has held numerous offices and chairmanships in As
toria units and Clatsop County Council. She is a member of the
Astoria School Board, and member on the boards of the Clatsop
County Tuberculosis and Health Association, The League of
Women Voters and the Clatsop County chapter of the Amer
ican Red Cross. She is also a member of the Astoria Chorus.
MRS. J. W. STAGGS .
Mrs. J. W. Staggs, first vice president of the Oregon Con
gress of Parents and Teachers, rs a resident of Milton-Freewater.
She was formerly treasurer of the Oregon Congress, vice presi
dent of Region 3, general chairman of the 1952 convention, juv
enile protection chairman of the Oregon Congress, president of
McLoughlin Union High School PTA and secretary of Central
School PTA, Milton-Freewater. Mrs. Staggs has also been an
active member of the Red Cross, president of the YWCA Board
at Walla Walla; chairman of the city council of Federated Clubs,
Milton-Freewater, and has done much work with Campfire.
