George Haley, Salem, president
of the Oregon Republican Club,
presided at the Hotel Senator din
er meeting at which plans were
made for the Republican State
Convention which will be held in
Salem in September or October.
Plans for organizing about a
dozen new clubs throughout the
state were also discussed.

An 80 year old Salem woman
suffered a broken right hip Fri
day morning when she was knock
ed to the sidewalk, apparently ac
cidentally, by a young girl.

The girls fled, police said, but
the boy remained at the scene.

Friday claimed the life of Calvin
Gross, 53, of Hillsboro.

saw which broke as he was at

City police aren't waiting for
delivery of a third three-wheel
motorcycle to step up parking
enforcement
This week the department put
an old model three-wheel cycle
into action which has been loan
ed by Scott's Motorcycle Center
where the order, for the . new
cycle has been placed.
Police Chief Clyde Warren
said delivery on the new ma
chine should be in about ft
month.
Meanwhile, a patrolman has
been taken off one of the patrol
cars to man the third cycle. His
chief, job is checking cars at
meters in the Shopping Center
and J2th and State streets areas
as well as unmetered sections
where parking limits are posted.
Two other officers on motor
cycles are concentrating on the
downtown sector.
Monday night the City Coun
cil authorized purchase of the
third cycle as well as an addi
tional patrolman to man it The
extra man will not be available
until police Civil Service begin
ners exams are given at the end
of this month.

babies were continuing a reunion
at the home of their mother here

They are Mrs. Betty Canny, 27,
of Areata. Calif., who was Betty
Stryker, of Lebanon, Ore., before
her marriage to D. J. Canny, and
Mrs. Louise Sawyer, ; 28, af San
Diego.
Mrs. Canny located her sister
and mother, now Mrs. F. T. Coffey,
through a letter to the San Diego
Evening Tribune after other means.

The mother and Mrs. Sawyer
went to Areata and brought Mrs.
Canny and her two children here
for the visit after an exchange of
letters. I
Mrs. Coffey said Betty remained
with her former husband, Roy M.

vorce broke up the marriage.
Mrs. Canny said she was told by
an aunt when she was; 14, three
years after her father's death, that
she hail a mother aod sister some
where. She has been trying to find
them since. i

EUGENE Oft Petitions were
circulated Friday in a area north
west of here asking incorporation
of a new municipality to be known
as Bethel City.
The area, which covers 3.3
square miles, has an" - assessed
valuation of 4 Vi million dollars,
Some 5,500 persons live in the
area which also has considerable
industry. .
Sponsors said incorporation was
the only way the community could
finance a needed drainage system.

A Salem man who took his
"meterx feeding charge to" mu
nicipal court came out Friday
50 cents losers but $1 winners.

of Hendrie Medical Laboratories
in the Livesley Building, who
received a police citation I and
$130 bail notice for leaving his
car parked longer than one hour
in a one-hour meter zone on
State Street . near the office
building. i
Hendrie was the first to plead
innocent to meter feeding since
the City Council ordered an en
forcement campaign earlier this
year.
: In court Friday Hendrie ad
mitted i oevrparking but denied
"feeding" the meter, that is con
tinuing to put coins in the same
meter beyond the time limit for
parking there. i
! Hendrie . explained that i be
cause of the nature of his work
he often was held up inside and
couldnt get his car out before
the time expired.
For the incident in question,
Hendrie said he went out for
his car, expecting to pay a 50
cent overparking charge ' but
he found instead that a friend
had put another nickel in his
meter and the police had ticket
ed his car for parking overtime,
which has been carrying a $1.50
charge.
Municipal Judge Douglas Hay
found Hendrie guilty, fined! him
50 cents.
Despite the standard police
bail schedule, the judge has dis
cretion: over the amount of fine
to levy if a defendant comes to
court instead of forfeiting bail
Fire Destroys
Garage, Shed
Fire did an estimated $500 dam
age to a garage and woodshed at
the residence of Leonard Whitten-
berg, 1761 S. Liberty St, early
Friday afternoon.
The woodshed, containing about
two cords of wood, was almost en
tirely destroyed, firemen said. A
wall and part of the roof of the
attached garage were also ruined,
and a tricycle and scooter in the
buildings were damaged.
Firemen from central and South
Salem stations, called at 12:30 p.
m., said the fire started in the
woodshed from unknown causes.

collided with the right side of

sides of the other truck were
