The Rev. Wayne Greene, new
pastor of the First Christian
Church, will begin his ministry

The Rev. Greene, formerly of j
Beatrice, Neb., has held but three
pastorates during his 25-year min- j
istry. A graduate of Drake Uni
versity! he has served churches at
Kearney, Neb., and liberty. Mo.,
.as well as the Beatrice church.
" His 11-year tenure at the latter
church is the longest in its his
tory. While in Beatrice he was act
ive in Boy Scout work, president
of the Kiwanis Club and is a
member of the Masonic Lodge.

The three act drama, The
Robe" will be presented Sunday
evening at the Englewood Evan
gelical United Brethren Church
by the Cascade College players of
Portland, Oregon, The cast is
comprised of twenty-three mem
bers, i - ,
The Robe1 tells the story of
the soldier who gambled for the
robe of Christ and won. The set
ting of the play is the early Ro
man Empire. The drama is an ad
aptation of the popular book of
the same name written by Lloyd
Douglas. . The colorful costuming
and special lighting add to the
reality of the story.
Because of its length, the play
will begin at seven o'clock and
the public is invited.

First Evange'ical United Breth
ren Church. The; rally will con
clude Sunday evening.
Dr. Paul P. Petticord, president
of the western Evangelical Sem
inary, is the principal speaker.
He returned recently from a tour
of Japan, Formosa and Korea
where he studied the work of the
church:
Dr. Petticord is a former pas
tor of the Salem church, having
served here from 1941 to 1943.
He has traveled extensively in
this country, Canada and through
out Europe in his work as vice
president of the National Associ
ation of Evangelicals and as
chairman of the' home board of
the Oriental Missionary society.
Tonight he will present a study
of Formosa while Korea will be

The Rev. G. Fred Hoy, widely
traveled evangelist, will conduct
a series oi revival meetings at the
Court Street Christian church
starting Sunday i and continuing
through Feb. 28. j
Before he entered the field of
evangelism, he served as minis
ter of the First Christian church
of Ingle wood, Calif., for 11 years.
For the past eight years he has
traveled throughout the country
conducting revival campaigns.
Each evening the program will
include special music by mem
bers of the church as well as by
out-of-state guests, the Rev. w.
Harold Lyman, minister, said.
Some 'of the messages sched
uled by the Rev; Hoy are: "If I
Had Just One Sermon to Preach,
"Tried Men," and 'When Is He
Coming."

Group Announces
Assembly Dates
The Watch Tower Bible and
Tract Society of New York-will
sponsor a three-day assembly of
Jehova's Witnesses in Corvallis
starting next Friday.
Scheduled in the high school

start with an evening session on

A teacher training institute for

Feb. 23 to 28 by the Child Evan
gelism Fellowship of Oregon.

Bethany Evangelical and Reform
Church, Marion and N. Capitol

Lanquist of Los Angeles, Calif.,
and Miss Iris Kiger of Spokane,
Wash., will direct the Institute.
Classes will be from 9:30 to 12
i noon and from 1 to 3 o'clock in
the afternoon.
There will be instruction in
memory work, and music, in the
organization of children's classes,
etc. The latest methods in visual
aides, flannelgraph, ob'ect lessons
will also be presented.

To Congregation
Authority for the operation of
the Garden Road Christian
church was turned over to the
congregation this week with the
dissolution of the planning com
mittee of the three sponsoring
churches, the Rev. Leonard H.
Camp, minister, has announced.
Monday evening the congrega
tion will hold a special session
to map future plans, he said. Bi
ble school attendance has passed
the 100 mark and a new class
has been started for young
adults.
Sunday morning the Rev. Camp
will speak on the topic "The
Christ of the Common People."
The evening service will have a
Valentine theme.

nual Missionary Conference at

The migrant worker commit

agricultural workers in this area

Scheduled to be present for the
meeting are the Rev. Dean Col
lins, western regional supervisor
of migrant work for the Rational

charge of the migrant program
in . Oregon from May through
September. Tbey will be accom
panied by Dr. Mark Talney, ex
ecutive secretary of the Oregon

Mrs. Ernest, P. Goulder and
Rev. Harold W. Black, Salem,
are members of the state migrant
committee of the Oregon coun
cil, which will meet in the Port
land YMCA at 10 a.m. Tuesday
to set up the state-wide pro
gram. Possibility of extending
the migrant ministry to a new
location in southern Oregon will
be discussed.

Remodeling
Commences

DALLAS Remodeling of SL
Phillips Catholic church is under
way a project that will mate
rially change the appearance of
the structure.
The interior is being remodel
ed with walls and ceiling finished
with raked plywood. An addition
measuring 16'x40' at the back of
the church is taking shape. In
this new section will be the al
tar, sacristy, utility room and rest
rooms. The floors of the auditor
ium are also being refinished and
the church foundation renewed.
At a later date, a new entrance
will be added which will increase
the interior. A nursery and choir
loft will be located in this front
portion. Last summer the church
was reroofed. The cost of remod
eling will be about $7000.
Choir Schedules
Radio Program
The high school choir of the
First Presbyterian Church will
make its first radio appearance
over station KOCO during the
9:43 a.m. service Sunday. The
choir is directed by Don Gleckler.
Also scheduled for the Sun
day morning service on Feb. 28

baptism have been requested to

St Paul's Plans
April Convention
The diocesan convention will
be held Sunday, April 25, in SL
Paul's Episcopal church with the
opening service slated at 7:30
p.m., the Rev. George H. Swift,
rector, has announced.
Confirmation Sunday is sche
duled the same day and will be
observed during the 11 a.m. serv
ice, he said. Confirmaton in
struction is conducted from 7:15
to 8 p.m. each Thursday in the
guild room of the church.
Children's Hour

PRATUM A series of Gospel
meetings will be held at the Pra
tum Mennonite Church starting
Wednesday evening at 7:30 and
continuing through Feb. 28, the
Rev. Frank S. Harder has an
nounced. '
Guest speaker for the series
will be the Rev. H. P. Fast of
Reedley, Calif. I
The Rev. Fast gives a daily ra
dio broadcast called ''Bible Trea
sures Time" and is chairman of
the board of missions in his de
nomination. He also is a member
ot the board of directors of Grace
Bible Institute of Omaha, Neb
Much of his teaching and preach2
ing ministry is enhanced by use
of charts. He will use charts in
the series here entitled: "God's
Plan in the Light of Prophecy."
In addition to the illustrated
messages there will be a variety
of special musical numbers , se
cluding the Salem Academy Cho
rus, an ensemble from the Dal
las Evangelical Mennonite Breth
ren Church, a saxophone duo and
a number of local music groups.
