V7 Heppner Jail Escapee Caught HEPPNER W Virgil Wayne Houghland, 26, was captured here Saturday 14 hours after escaping from the Wheeler County jail at Fossil, where he had been held on a charge of carrying concealed weapons. Police Chief Roscoe Kelley ar rested Houghland as he tried to hitchhike through here. Houghland, held with bond set at $9,000, es caped by picking the lock on his ecu. Burial will be at Le banon IOOF Cemeterv. Born April 7, 1912, at Lacomb, Powell was a lifelong Oregon resident. He was associated with West Coast Lumber Co. and was a member of Eagles Lodge. On Nov. 10. 1943. he married Maciel Clem, who survives, as do Darold and Betty Powell, of LeDanon, cmidren by a former marriage: also four sten-rhil dren; his parents Mr. and Mrs. Ora V.
