Thursday to outwit the weather in
a dramatic race against death.
This is the story as told by Nez
Perce County Sheriff W. W. Hays
Airline officials reported to him
that a West Coast plane bearing
serum for a man in critical need
of U at Walla Walla, could not land
there because of a snow storm.

ments with the Washington State
Patrol to deliver the serum to
them as soon as the plane landed.
State Patrolman Don Huber of
Pomeroy raced toward Lewiston
to meet Hays and start the serum

Walla Walla. They met about 15
miles" West of Lewiston.
Huber relayed the serum along
toward Walla Walla, transferring
it to the care of Patrol Sgt Loy
Kenedy Southwest of Pomeroy, for
the final lap of the mission.
