None Complained
"No member of that grand

"There has been no evidence

grand jury.
"The grand jury has made a j

Santa Claus
Missing From
Yuletide Party
BALTIMORE W There will be
no Santa at the Christmas party
at St. Alphonsus parochial school
this year.
The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Louis J.
Mendelis plans to teU the young
sters there isn't any Santa Claus
and never was.
There will be no "Jingle Bells" ;
either. "They have nothing to do i
with the birth of Christ," said;
Msgr. Mendelis.
The parish pastor said he decid
ed to expose Santa as a fraud be
cause "the businesses are com
mercializing Christmas too much."
He has two complaints against
Santa: ;
1. He frightens the little children '
with his garish red costume and !
false whiskers. '
2: The older children spot him
quickly as a phony. j
"We've had some tough exper- j
iences .with him." said Msgr. Men-!
delis.
"In, Tiis place this year we will ;
have a striking nativity exhibit. At ;
future Christmas parties we will '

figures."
,The pastor said he doesn't think
it will be too difficult to explain to
his young parishoners at their an
nua, party on Dec. 22. He plans to
read ' them the Bible story of j
Christ's birth after exploding the
Santa myth. j
"I may be criticized and laughed
at," he said, "but so what?"
