mass for Frank L. Pranger, 72,
who died at a Salem hospital aft
er a short illness, will. be held
Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St
Mary's Catholic Church.
The Rev. Father 1 Sohler, of
Springfield, nephew of Pranger,
will officiate. Recitation of the
rosary was held Tuesday evening
at St Mary's. The Unger Funeral
Home of Mt Angel is in charge.
Pranjger was born in Illinois
in 1881. He married Mary Sohler
at Verboort, Ore., and they moved
to Mt Angel three years ago.
Pallbearers will be W. A. Ver
boort, Francis Schmidt and Jack
Sohler, all of Mt Angel; Roy
Thwaite, Portland, and Dexter
Smith, Salem.
Survivors, besides the widow of
Mt Angel, include five children,
Mrs. Helen Smith, Salem; Gus
Pranger, Mt Angel; Edward
Pranger, Yakima, Wash.; Mrs.
Muriel Thwaite, Portland, and
Nick V. Pranger, Los Angeles,
Calif. Fourteen grandchildren

More building construction
workers are out of work this fall
than is usually normal for this
time of year, it was revealed
Tuesdays
Herbert Barker, secretary of
the Building Trades Union here,
estimated about 50 workers, rep
resenting various building trades
such as carpenters, electricians,
plumbers and others are out of
work.
"This is not too bad a situa
tion," said Barker, "although
usually at this time of year all
our local men are working and
we even hire "drifters." The bad
part is that the layoffs are com
ing in good building weather."
State employment officials con
firmed Barker's statements.
Neither they nor Barker seem
ed to know the reason for the
layoffs. Several possible reasons
could include the fact that sev
eral large local construction
projects such as at the two Salem
hospitals and high school are
winding up construction.
"Another thing," said Barker.
