Cancer, Heart -Diseases Get More Attention Diseases common among old people, like cancer and heart dis eases, get increasing attention in public health programs because people are living longer now, it was noted in Salem Thursday by Dr. R. H. Wilcox of the State Board of Health staff. Summarizing Oregon's public health program since its start as a department of state govern ment 50 years ago. Dr. Wilcox told Salem Lions Club at a Mar ion Hotel luncheon that the aver age life span is about 20 years longer now than it was a half century ago. One big mark of health prog ress over the 50 years, said tha doctor, is better, tuberculosis con trol.
