The story was the same on the lower British Columbia mainland. Winds diminished as they moved inland Monday morning, but gusts up to 50 miles an hour at Walla Walla and 40 m. p. h. at Spokane were recorded. Power service at Walla Walla was knocked out by felled trees and branches for as much as three hours. The gale drove down on the Pa cific Northwest from the Gulf of Alaska, where another storm was reported brewing. Since 1945 the number of grain combines in the South has near ly tripled, and there are now 10 times as many cornpickers and seven times as many hay balers. Golden ChapeL He died Satur day In a Salem hospital at the age of 82 years. He was born Jan. 12, 1871 In Bedford, Iowa, and a year later moved to Salem with his parents. In 1893 he was married to Miss Linnie N. Savage who preceded hint in death in 1939. While in Salem, he operated the Savage and Reid Feed and Seed Store and later moved to Portland where he was a partner in the Portland Feed and Seed Co. He returned to Salem about a year ago. Mr. Reid was a member of the Sunnyside Methodist Church in Portland, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Oregon Con sistory. He is survived by two brothers, Robert Reid, Portland, and Roy Reid, Palo Alto, Calif.; also seven nieces and eight neph ews. Interment will be in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of the Virgil T. Golden Co. Dr. Brooks Moore will officiate.
