A forrest green botany wool
crepe dress stole the champion
ribbon in the 4-H clothing IV
division at the state fair. Made
by Diane Jones, Albany, the dress
is a smart garment for dressy
occasions. Diane also made a
handsome rayon crepe slip to
wear under her dress. Brown ac
cessories have been chosen to
wear with the dress for special
occasions.
Top beef results included:
Hereford steer, owned by Frances
Deardorff, 17, Prairie City, was
judged grand champion in 4-H
competition with a record number
of entries from all corners of
Oregon. Jim Towery, 15, of Mar
ion, showed the reserve cham
pion, an Angus.
Cal Monroe, state 4-H agent,
said this year's 117 entries more
than doubled those of two years
ago and were half again larger
than last year. Exhibitors brought
67 steers this year compared
with 35 a year ago.

strations wont end at the Oregon
State fair until Saturdsy after
noon. Each day new awrrds are
announced. Thursday's include:
Frances Hughson. Albany, was
chosen as blue ribbon winner
and first alternate Mn the senior
canning contest, and with Mary,
will enter Oregon State college

Sbeep Winnings
An 83-pound Southdown lamb
was named grand chamoion mar
ket lamb at state fair 4-H sheep
exhibits. Owner, Irwin Riddell,
14, Independence, was dubbed
reserve champion showman a
few hours earlier.
Ringside spectator, brother,
David, age 9, when asked, if he
also had sheep, answered "all
Riddells got sheep." He placed
second in Southdown ewe lamb
competition, and sister Billie
Jean, 16, showed the champion
Southdown ewe.

was owned by Barbara Jeffer
son, 11, Madras.

Of Fat Stock
Slated Today
Nearly 200 4-H market lambs,
hogs and steers will be, sold today
at the annual fat stock auction at
state fair starting at 10 a.m.
It Is expected to be the largest
in the history of the 4-H event
Burton Hutton, state 4-H agent,
says beef judges rated the 4-H
steers superior in finish to any
thing they had ever judged in 4-H
competition at the fair. Only five
of the 67 steers which will be sold
graded lower than choice.
Approximately 275 animals will
go into the auction, including the
steers, fat lambs and hogs.

Cook compels that a wide spot
in the road near hk house is be
coming a dumping place for un
wanted dogs and cats.
Since the community has no
humane society, Cook says it's his
unpleasant duty to dispose of the
animal waifs. He suggests that the
pet deserters also leave a bag

lets "if they want me to share in
their unkind deeds."
